House Approves Strong Support for Israel In Landslide

The resolution was introduced by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

It strongly condemns recent violence in Israel and the Palestinian territory.

It also urges for the situation to be resolved peacefully.

The result was 412-9, with 195 Democrats voting yes with all Republicans.

Nine progressive Democrats from minority groups voted against the resolution, including some who have called Israel an apartheid state that oppresses Palestinians.

One Democrat, Rep. Betty McCollum of Minnesota, voted present.

The vote comes one day before Israeli President Isaac Herzog is set to speak to a joint meeting of Congress.
